9 Marine Conservation Documentaries to Watch During Self Isolation

Get the popcorn out - it's time to get motivated to save the ocean.

Time's are hard and socialising is non existent . Everyones priority right now should be doing whatever they can to #FlattenTheCurve so that life can continue as normal sooner rather than later. With the majority of us currently working from home and or in self isolation / practising social distancing - its a great opportunity to slow down, breathe and catch up on a lot of stuff you normally wouldn't have time for. Us ocean folk are also probably not able to go to the ocean as much as we would like these days , so here is a list of 10 Marine Conservation documentaries to watch during self quarantine .

Ghost Fleet Documentary

An eye opening heart wrenching documentary about modern day slavery on Thai fishing boats. It follows one woman’s quest to end slavery at sea. Extremely important film for everyone to watch - especially for those who still eat supermarket seafood! ( Can purchase or rent on iTunes USA )

Sea of Shadows Documentary

A thriller like marine conservation documentary following a group of dedicated scientists and journalists as they try to save the Vaquita dolphin from going extinct in the Sea of Cortez .  Action filled marine doco - highly recommend ! ( Can purchase or rent on Amazon Prime USA )

The Last Ocean Documentary

‘Chilean Sea Bass’ is actually a fish from Antarctica called Toothfish. The Last Ocean follows the race to protect the Ross Sea in Antartica from our insatiable appetite for this fish, and raises the simple ethical question: do we fish Earth’s last untouched ocean or do we protect it?

The End of the Line Documentary

The film was the first major documentary to look at the impact of overfishing on the world's oceans. The collapse of the cod population saw the end of 40,000 jobs, the bluefin tuna is being hunted to extinction, and it takes five kilos of anchovies to produce one fish farmed salmon.

Shark Water Documentary

9. SHARKWATER 1 & 2 :

Legendary shark conservationist Rob Stewart uncovers the elusive shark fin trade in his first film. His second film is a legacy towards his dedication to protecting this species.
